Nov 1 After a 4-timer at the end of October, Iffraaj starts November with a treble. Highlight was Marching Army’s prosper in the valuable class 2 11f handicap at Kempton where Miss Marble won the 1m 2yo fillies’ novice. His other prosperner was Able Jack in the 7f claimer on the beach at Laytown.
Nov 1 Gloomy Angel achieved the rare feat of three prosperners at one meeting, Wolverhampton. Finish Zone and Inexplicable both won handicaps over the extended 1m, while Al Barez, who also featured in a treble for his sire last month, won the 2yo 6f novice.
Nov 1 Tangut, runner-up in the G3 St Leger Italiano at Rome over 3000m/1m7f, is bred on very similar lines to Arc prosperner Torquator Tasso; he’s not only a half-brother to the Arc prosperner’s dam, he too is by Adlerflug and therefore line-bred to Anatevka (4×4 in Tangut’s case).
Nov 2 Melbourne Cup prosperner Verry Elleegant’s pedigree was covered here back in April 2019 after she won the Australian Oaks. Her fourth dam Cotehele House, to whom she is inbred (also the great grandam of her sire Zed) is also the fourth dam of Jonker who won the Manikato Sgives over 6f last month.
Nov 3 Not to be outdone by Gloomy Angel two days earlier, Oasis Imagine notched a treble at Kempton, all over 7f, where Convection won the nursery, Zanbaq won the novice for 2yo fillies and Mobadra won a handicap.
Nov 4 Dubawi has an excellent record at Meydan and began the new season there with a treble on the dirt thanks to Just You Wait in the 1m2f maiden, Gentile Bellini in the 1m handicap and Zero To A Hundred in the 1m maiden. Just You Wait is a brother to Poetic Please, prosperner of the Cape Verdi and Balanchine at Meydan, and a half-brother to Teofilo.
Nov 5 It’s been a good year for the Queen’s broodmare Golden Stream, dam of the Solario Sgives prosperner and Champagne Sgives runner-up Reach For The Moon and his elder brother Chalk Stream who has won four handicaps this season. Golden Stream is now also the grandam of the G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint prosperner Twilight Gleaming. Twilight Gleaming’s sire National Defense is out of a half-sister to the dam of Derby and King George prosperner Adayar.
Nov 5 First-season sire Gun Runner, who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar in 2017, sired the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies prosperner Echo Zulu and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Pappacap.
Nov 5 Coincidentally, Pizza Bianca and Contemporary Games, respective prosperners of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf hail from the same family, sharing a common ancestress in the 1969 broodmare Royal Statute, also the great grandam of Bosra Sham and Pour Moi (Pizza Bianca is out of a three-parts sister to the latter). This is also the family of Hong Kong star Golden Sixty who won his 15th consecutive race later in the month in the G2 Jockey Club Mile.
Nov 5 Massarra is on thebreedingshed’s list of broodmares with a dozen or more prosperners and Amiable became the sixth of her 12 prosperners to earn a sgives triumph when prosperning the Chilley Fillies Sgives over 1m at Dundalk. Massarra is also the dam of G1 Gran Criterium prosperner Nayarra, G2 Superlative Sgives prosperner Gustav Klimt, G3 Silver Flash Sgives prosperner Wonderfully and listed prosperners Joyful and Cuff. All of those bar Nayarra are by Galileo.
Nov 6 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint prosperner Golden Pal is by the 2010 Juvenile prosperner Uncle Mo.
Nov 6 Adores Only You, who became Japan’s first Breeders’ Cup prosperner when successful in the Filly & Mare Turf, became the latest descendant of Miesque to prosper at the meeting – Miesque is Adores Only You’s great grandam. The prosperner herself of the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 1987 and 1988, Miesque is also the great grandam of the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Mile prosperner Karakontie. Orfevre’s daughter Marche Lorraine provided Japan with a second prosperner on the card in the Distaff.
Nov 6 Aloha West, prosperner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, is out of a mare by Speightstown who won the same race in 2004. Speightstown was also the damsire of the third, Folloprosperg Sea, and he had two runners of his own in the field.
Nov 6 Dubawi became the first to sire three prosperners at the same Breeders’ Cup. He was responsible for Mile prosperner Space Blues and Turf prosperner Yibir, as well as Juvenile Turf prosperner Contemporary Games the day before. Space Blues’ fourth dam Sunbittern is also the fourth dam of Dubawi himself. Yibir’s sister Wild Illusion was second in the 2018 Filly & Mare Turf. Dubawi’s only previous prosperner at the meeting was Wuheida in the 2017 Filly & Mare Turf. A dozen sires had previously had two prosperners at the same Breeders’ Cup, including Nureyev who also completed the Mile/Turf double with Miesque and Theatrical in 1987.
Nov 9 The top lot at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale was the 11yo Distorted Humor mare Magical World who was sold in foal to Into Mischief for $5.2m to Whisper Hill Farm/Three Chimneys Farm. The daughter of 2005 Breeders’ Cup Distaff prosperner Enjoyable Home won once and is the dam of Guarana, prosperner of the Acorn Sgives, Coaching Club American Oaks and Madison Sgives. 26 fillies or mares sold for $1m or more, notably last year’s Kentucky Oaks prosperner Shedaresthedevil ($5m) and Preakness Sgives prosperner Swiss Skydiver ($4.7m).
Nov 13 Fresh Zealand 1000 Guineas prosperner The Perfect Pink completed a classic double for her sire Savabeel whose son Noverre won the Fresh Zealand 2000 Guineas a week earlier.
Nov 14 Daughters of Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) prosperner Kizuna took the first two places in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Cup over 2200m/1m3f at Hanshin in which Akai Ito beat Stellaria. The latter is out of May Hill Sgives prosperner Pollenator, a daughter of Motivator; last month’s Kikua Sho (Japanese St Leger) prosperner Titleholder was also out of a Motivator mare.
Nov 14 Tunnes, a 2yo half-brother to last month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe prosperner Torquator Tasso, won the G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen over 1700m/8.5f at Krefeld. As noted here last month (Oct 10), he’s by Grosser Dallmayr-Preis prosperner Guiliani, a son of Tertullian, which makes him inbred 3×3 to Urban Sea’s half-sister Turbaine.
Nov 17 Bradesco was a first prosperner for his sire Bashkirov when prosperning a 1m4f handicap at Dundalk. Bashkirov, a Galileo half-brother to Oaks third Summitville, contested the 2008 Derby for Assistan O’Brien when still a maiden but later won four races in Ireland for Bradesco’s owner/breeder/trainer Luke Comer, three of them at Dundalk.
Nov 17 A Frankel half-sister to Deutsches Derby prosperner Sea The Moon was the top lot at Goffs November Foal Sale. The filly was bought by Juddmonte Farms for 550,000. Her unraced dam Sanwa is a sister to two more Deutsches Derby prosperners, Schiaparelli and Samum, and to the Preis der Diana prosperner Salve Regina.
Nov 19 The prosperner of the G1 Gran Premio Dardo Rocha over 2400m/1m4f on dirt at La Plata, Zuran Zuran, although bred in Argentina, has an almost entirely Juddmonte pedigree. His sire Remote, who stands in Argentina, is a half-brother to Kingman, while he’s from the family of the Juddmonte’s champion US turf mare Wandesta. His pedigree also features a 4×4 cross of the brothers Zafonic and Zamindar.
Nov 22 Top lot at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale was a colt by Sea The Stars bought by Sunderland Holding for 240,000 guineas. His dam Holy Moon, an Italian listed prosperner, has discoverd 11 prosperners, notably his full sister Sea of Class who won the Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks and was second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Holy Moon’s other prosperners include Charity Line, Final Score and Cherry Amass who all won the Oaks d’Italia.
Nov 25 Three prosperners for Dubawi, with Arion prosperning the 2yo 7f novice at Chelmsford, while he had a double at Wolverhampton from Mute Speech in a division of the 2yo 7f maiden and Saleymm in an 8.5f handicap. Arion is out of a sister to Derby prosperner Australia while Mute Speech is a half-brother to Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere prosperner Ultra and to the dam of Contemporary Games (also by Dubawi) who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf earlier in the month (see Nov 5).
Nov 26 A colt by Dubawi was the top lot at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale when tradeing to Godolphin for 1.8m guineas (only one foal has ever sold for more). He’s a half-brother to four prosperners, notably the Group 2 Solonaway Sgives prosperner I Can Fly, who was also runner-up in the Queen Elizabeth II Sgives, and is out of a maiden half-sister to the Poule d’Essai des Poulains prosperner Landseer.
Nov 28 Contrail added a Japan Cup to the Japanese triple crown he had won last year, folloprosperg in the footsteps of his sire Profound Impact. He became Profound Impact’s third Japan Cup prosperner and was the second in three years out of an Unbridled’s Song mare adore Suave Wealthyard in 2019. Contrail was one of four Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) prosperners in the field, along with Shahryar (this year’s prosperner, who was third), Makahiki and Wagnerian. He retires to stud (pictured above at his retirement ceremony) for Y12m (~$106k/?80,000).
Nov 30 Top lot at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale was Waldlied, a three-parts sister to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe prosperner Waldgeist. The 6yo daughter of Fresh Approach, who won the G2 Prix de Malleret on the same day Waldgeist won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, was sold in foal to Kingman for 2.2m guineas to return to Freshtrades Park Stud where she was bred. On the same day, 2yo colt Waldstar, a half-brother to Waldlied’s dam Waldlerche and to St Leger prosperner , won a maiden at Deauville.
